Cuyana Leather Guide
Our leathers are responsibly sourced from Italian, Argentinian, and Turkish tanneries. We work only with tanneries certified by the LWG (Leather Working Group) and with a Gold or Silver certification. The
LWG Gold rating certifies a tannery meets the highest standards in environmental practices, such as water, chemical, energy, and waste management, as well as social responsibility, including fair labor conditions, worker health and safety, and ethical business practices.
We choose to manufacture our products as close as possible to the source of materials, using leathers that are a by-product of the food industry and would otherwise go to waste. We never use exotic leathers.

Pebbled Leather
Pebbled leather is ideal for daily wear.
We use three types of cowhide grained leather with a pebbled-embossed texture. Two are soft and lightweight for relaxed shapes, while our signature thicker-weight pebbled leather is uniquely developed for Cuyana and ideal for softly-structured silhouettes. It's made from a single crust layer with the same distinctive pebbled texture on both sides, which creates
a more sustainable design that doesn't require synthetic lining. Sourced from tanneries in Italy and Argentina, both rated Gold by the LWG.
Smooth Leather
Smooth leather is known for its clean surface and refined appearance. Ours is sourced from cowhide and features a supple texture, silky touch, and subtle sheen. Full-grain leather such as this retains its natural, intact surface, making it the highest quality grade of leather. Sourced from an Italian tannery certified Gold by the LWG.
Nappa Lambskin
It’s exceptionally soft with a buttery texture and lightweight feel. The fine
grain provides a delicate and refined appearance. Ours has a matte finish. Its softness makes it more susceptible to scratches and wear over time, thus requiring a more mindful handling and care compared to coarser leathers. Sourced from a Turkish tannery certified Gold by the LWG.
Suede Leather
Supple with a velvety texture, it’s crafted from the inner split of cowhide, treated to create a soft and uniformed texture. The surface looks and feels slightly different depending on which way you brush it. Sourced from an Italian tannery certified Gold by the LWG.
Croc-embossed & Snake-embossed Leather
Our croc and snake-embossed leather is made with top quality, full-grain calfskin leather finished with a pattern embossed for a refined effect. Sourced from an Italian tannery certified Silver by the LWG.
Hardware & Linings
Our signature hardware is crafted
from metal and plated with nickel-free, 18K gold. Most of our products are lined with leather, featuring either a luxurious pebbled texture or the natural backside of the leather finished with a light protective coating. On select styles we use microsuede for its lightweight properties.
